The existing concrete foundation caissons, which supports the existing steel building columns, were core drilled the full depth of approximately 60 feet to hard pan, which was so hard that it broke the drill bit. Laboratory testing of the steel columns were performed to justify the additional loading. The building is functioning today, with no evidence of distress due to the addition of 6 stories to the existing 12 stories. As an indication of the structural integrity of the building, the addition of an another story (a penthouse) has been considered.
