John Hancock Center
| You can imagine RCA Corporation's surprise when they learned that although the City of Chicago issued a building permit for the John Hancock Center, they did not issue a permit for the twin 246 ft. antenna structures. This was nothing less than a disaster. RCA Corp. quickly called in A. G. Freiman & Associates to help rectify the situation. A. G. Freiman & Associates took charge of the permit approval process. After reviewing the plans, sealing the drawings and submitting the permit to the City of Chicago, the permit for the antennas was approved. In addition, A. G. Freiman & Associates supervised the entire construction process for the twin antennas atop the John Hancock Center. Over the years, A. G. Freiman & Associates and the John Hancock Center have continued to work together on a number of projects. All of the various structural inspections of the twin antennas over the years have been done by A. G. Freiman & Associates. In 1993, we were called in to do the structural engineering for the grid extension platform (a platform to augment the John Hancock antennas with additional small communication antennas and microwave dishes). Then in 1997, the John Hancock Center turned to A. G. Freiman & Associates to do the structural engineering for the new 80 ft. high Channel 28 antenna. The John Hancock Center and A. G. Freiman & Associates worked together on the long-term project of replacing the antennas atop the John Hancock Building with new digital antennas. |
