Helene Curtis Industries
A. G. Freiman & Associates has had a long-time relationship with Helene Curtis Industries, spanning over 15 years and hundreds of projects, both for their downtown corporate headquarters and the north side plant. The project pictured above and below, depicts their downtown corporate headquarters, originally built in 1913 as a nine story coffee warehouse. The original building was built in the era when flat slab construction was in its infancy and structural engineers were innovative as a matter of necessity. In 1984, a two story addition and extensive remodeling turned it into the corporate headquarters for Helene Curtis Industries. In the project pictured here, A. G. Freiman & Associates was called in by Helene Curtis Industries to do a complete top-to-bottom structural inspection of the corporate headquarters. As a result of the inspection, the following concerns (among others) were corrected: All steel window lintels on the four walls of the building were repaired. Most of the lintel repair consisted of removal of bricks as required to visually inspect the steel lintels for the extent of rusting and deflection. After painting all exposed steel, flashing was installed and brick matching the existing brick was replaced. Steel lintels that were badly rusted and deflected were replaced. A total of thirty-nine limestone sections were replaced. |
